INJECTION MOLDING OF POLYCARBONATE THICK-WALLED PARTS USING A TOOL WITH VARIOUSLY DESIGNED GATE INSERTS

Injection molding is an advantageous technology for the mass production of plastic parts without necessity additional procedures. The applicability this method still partially limited by required properties manufactured parts. Especially in field optics, there a need to produce thick-walled while maintaining their transparency. This paper reports on how various shapes gating systems affected process parameters and cavity filling during injection polycarbonate specimens. These outcomes demonstrated that film gates alternatives are more suitable standard optical products than triple-edge systems. Favorable results were observed particularly uniformity filling, size shrinkage, occurrence defects such as voids or sink marks.
